Catalan Book Week
This central place becomes the City of Literature, with its own avenues and squares, its wooden huts and around eighty exhibitors.
The Week is a way for bookshops and publishing companies who produce books in Catalan to make readers aware of their publications, giving visibility to the books and magazines and offering reading recommendations.
Various kinds of activities are organised: literary routes, breakfasts, aperitifs and afternoon snacks, public readings, book presentations, workshops and a number of family activities.
The first edition of Catalan Book Week was held in the vestibule of Sants Railway Station in 1983, and it continued at the same venue until 1989. With the aim of attracting even more people, new venues were added in addition to Barcelona, including the cities of Girona, Tarragona, Perpignan, Palma, Madrid and New York.
