The event has always been organised by the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club, a century-old institution in the Catalan capital. The Conde de Godó Trophy is a multi-class regatta that brings together all kinds of sailing boats divided into five categories.

Wally sail boats combine their sleek design with a performance that befits their enormous size. They can have over twenty crew members.

The TP52, Soto 40 and J80 are the three monotype categories that offer the most dynamic action, competing in real time, as they are either identical vessels or they have parameters that equal their speed.

Lastly, the ORC class is made up of vessels that are mostly manufactured in series. Their varied sizes makes it necessary to group them into three different categories according to their speed.

The competition has a large village open to the public, where parallel activities are organised. The event celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2013.
