The competition is held at the installations of the Barcelona Royal Polo Club.

Show jumpers from various countries compete in the final of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Jumping Final (Nations Cup), the most important horse riding competition of the season.

Riders from France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Spain, as host country, compete for the 2.3 million euros in cash prizes.

Apart from the Nations Cup, other tournaments are held during the four days of competition. These include the City of Barcelona Longines Cup and the Queen's Cup.

CSIO Barcelona is part of the Barcelona Equestrian Challenge programme of activities, an ambitious project promoted by Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Royal Polo Club in order to raise the profile of horse riding among the general public. This traditional horse riding event celebrated its centenary in 2011.
