This athletics event is organised by the El Corte Inglés department store chain, with the support of Barcelona City Council.

La Cursa is one of the largest races in the world. In 1994 it entered the Guinness book of records when 109,457 athletes took part. In terms of the number of participants, it is currently in second place in the world ranking for international fun runs.

It is run over a street circuit of 10.766 km, along some of the city's most central streets, and many people cover the distance accompanied by their friends and families. The organisation allows two and a half hours to complete the course. One of the main incentives is that participants can enter the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium.

Over 73,000 people took part in the fun run's last edition. Throughout its long history, over two million competitors have taken part in the event.
