The event aims to provide Barcelona with a prestigious music programme in a spectacular setting at the beginning of the summer.

From the very beginning, the organisers have opted for well-known artists from the national and international scene, covering all styles of music, featuring established artists, present-day stars and icons from the alternative music scene.

All the concerts are held outdoors, among the cedars and cypresses in the Royal Palace gardens. The site has several structures designed by Gaudi, including a pergola and a wrought-iron dragon, something that had been lost and forgotten until its rediscovery in 1984. It gives you a good excuse to get there a little while before the concerts begin so you can enjoy not only the music, but also the treasures that are hidden away in the gardens. These include the Royal Palace, a building that from 1919 to 1931 was the residence of the Spanish royal family whenever they visited Barcelona.

Many famous names have performed at the festival, including Antony & and the Johnsons, Lana del Rey, Tom Jones, Carla Bruni and the conductor Zubin Mehta.
