International Community. Barcelona ICD repeats its success another year, closing the most attended edition, and the most diverse, hosting visitors from 135 countries.
The Barcelona International Community Day celebrated its 5th edition on Saturday, October 20th at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona. The day brought together 4,928 visitors (an increase of 7.5% over the edition of 2017), 74% of who attended for the first time, while the rest repeated the experience. This increase of public for several years in a row confirms the consolidation of this initiative promoted by the Ajuntament de Barcelona.
This meeting aimed at the international community has therefore become the annual reference gathering for foreigners who have changed their city of origin for Barcelona, where they discover a welcome area in their new city and are provided with information, services and the possibility of expanding their businesses and networking opportunities to boost their integration.
Diversity in the origin of people attending Barcelona ICD has also increased compared to the 2017 edition. With 80% of foreigners and 20% of nationals, there were visitors from 135 different countries (being France, Venezuela and Italy the main three countries contributing with more visitors). Students, entrepreneurs, members of international research teams, business executives, artists, and families… Nobody wanted to miss this great international meeting.
The percentage of women’s presence stands out in particular: a 58.2% that exceeded the participation of men, which represented 48.1% of visitors, showing the active and participative role of women in the professional and social world of Barcelona and acknowledging the success of the 2018 Barcelona ICD programme that had numerous activities aimed at professional women.
This favorable outcome strongly suggests that the 6th edition of the Barcelona International Community Day in 2019 – that is prospectively scheduled for Saturday October 26 2019- will be even more successful.
